If you’re a social creature at all, the prospect of attending countless parties is probably pretty high. Take advantage of that perfect opportunity to dress to the nines and a time to shine.
The perfect dress
The best evening gown for any woman is one that fits well and flatters your figure. This is probably the single most important ingredient in pulling off any look–that, and looking your age. Nothing’s worse than trying to wear something age-inappropriate or too tight. The result is almost always disastrous.
Another consideration to factor into the equation is whether or not the latest trends are for you. Sometimes the best looks are timeless, classic looks that never go out of style, so figuring out what’s right for you is equally important.
Where to begin
If you don’t have anything in your closet that you’ve been dying to wear or you’re just itching to splurge a little, then by all means commence shopping. The Internet is a great place to begin your search for the latest fashions and accessories to complete the look you’re trying to achieve.
A note of caution, though: Ordering an evening gown directly from the Internet comes with its own set of risks. There’s no guarantee that it will fit properly or that it will look the same on you as it looked on the model or mannequin. Unless you’re extremely familiar with the site and the accuracy of its sizing, this is uncharted territory and cause for concern.
One of the distinct advantages of shopping in person at a salon or boutique is trying stuff on. Another is the ability of a trained professional on hand to counsel you and from which to seek advice.
So you’ve found it and you couldn’t be happier. All that searching finally paid off. Now all you have to do is find the right accoutrements to finish the look. Pairing the right shoes and accessories with any evening gown is paramount. They can make or break any outfit, no matter how stellar it is.
Much of the decision-making for these finishing touches will be dictated by your surroundings in and out of the venue where the event will be taking place. Depending on your environment, be sure to take into consideration what you’ll be walking through, the temperature inside and out, how long you’ll be standing on your feet, and whether or not you’ll need to bring along a light wrap and some comfortable flats or ballet slippers in addition to your heels and coat, if you’re bringing one.
Hair and makeup
No look is complete without the right hair and makeup. Just as the right jewelry can add polish and sparkle to your ensemble, the right hair and makeup can do wonders to further the look.
This is an area where once again the same rules apply as to trends, age, and knowing what suits you best. Whether or not to wear your hair up or down is often dictated by your dress and how much you’ve played it up or down with jewelry and other accessories. As far as makeup, an understated look is always your best bet.
