Looking for zesty treats you can eat with your fingers that are easily prepared at home? Then look no further. Tostones topped with your favorite spicy sausage is a finger food with bite that’s perfect for parties and snacks which you can easily prepare at home in no time at all that the whole family will love. The best part about this recipe is the fact that it contains commonly found ingredients kept in most Latin households, so there’s not a long list for the grocery store you’ll have to buy. Serve these at your next party or as an appetizer for any holiday feast.

Topping Ingredients

1 lb linguica or chorizo or your favorite sausage

1 small onion, diced

1-2 cloves garlic, minced

1 bundle chives, chopped

1 large red tomato, diced

1 tsp oil

1/4 – 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper (depending on your tastes)

Salt and pepper

Topping Preparation

To prepare this delicious finger food topping, start by heating oil in a large frying pan or skillet with onions and garlic. After removing sausage casing, place sausage in pan and crumble with a wooden spoon or spatula while stirring in onion and garlic. As it’s browning, add cayenne and salt and pepper to taste. When it’s finished browning, remove from heat, drain, and place on several layers of paper towel for a minute or two. Place mixture in bowl and toss with diced tomato, then set aside — and try not to eat it all while you’re making your tostones.

Tostones Ingredients

5 tbsps cooking oil

3 cups cold water

1 peeled plantain

salt to taste

Tostones Preparation

Tostones make a great finger food all by themselves. For these easy treats, heat oil in large skillet or frying pan. Break plantain into chunks and place in pan. Fry on each side for 3-1/2 minutes. Remove plantains from oil and place on a clean surface such as a cutting board or counter top. Now, using a small dinner or lunch plate, flatten the plantains by pressing down on them. Next, dip plantains in water and return to hot oil frying each side 1 minute. Remove from oil and place on paper towel. Salt and pepper to taste.

Finally, take a large spoonful of sausage mixture and top each individual tostone with it then sprinkle with chive. For added zest, and obviously added calories, add a tiny dollop of sour cream or a dash of your favorite hot sauce before adding chive. Serve this yummy finger food immediately for best results.
