The less time you spend on the negative, the better your chances of coming through the other side relatively unscathed.

Check your baggage at the door

Of course you need to digest the events and process them in a healthy and productive manner. Tamping down emotions and not dealing with them, period, is nonproductive and a recipe for disaster. Unresolved feelings will only resurface and can leave you emotionally crippled and unable to have healthy relationships in the future, with some devastating consequences in the form of baggage. Excess baggage left unchecked will eventually seep into almost every aspect of your life, leading to depression and a whole host of other negative side effects. So, make a stand and nip it in the bud by dealing with it head on in a positive and productive way. If need be, schedule yourself some time with a counselor or hash it out with family and friends. They can make great sounding boards, and you’d be surprised at how willing they are to see you safely through the difficult times in life.
