Whether you want to save money on cleaning supplies or you want a more eco-friendly home, cleaning with vinegar is a great way to keep your kitchen naturally clean and fresh. Vinegar kills bacteria and helps remove build-up and grime. It is also free of toxic ingredients that can be found in many commercial cleaning products. According to the United States Environmental Protection Agency, cleaning products can irritate your skin, eyes, and respiratory system. Safe, anti-bacterial, and effective, vinegar is the ultimate cleaning tool. So, how is it used?
For a clean kitchen floor
The kitchen floor is one area that needs regular washing. Subject to food spills and the steps of a family of feet, the floor can quickly become covered in bacteria and dirt. Wash the floor with a simple vinegar and warm water solution to keep it sparkling clean. Plain white vinegar, which is very inexpensive, works wonderfully. Take a couple of minutes to sweep up crumbs and debris. Add one cup of vinegar to a gallon of hot water. Use a mop or hand-clean with a cotton cloth, washing away sticky residue and dirt with ease, in less than 10 minutes!
Natural all-purpose cleaner
An all-purpose cleaner is essential for quickly cleaning kitchen countertops, the refrigerator, and the stove top. Make a natural all-purpose cleaner with vinegar, baking soda, and water. Add lavender, lemongrass, or spearmint essential oil for a soothing aroma. Fill a 16-ounce plastic spray bottle with the following ingredients:
- 1 1/2 cups water
- 1/2 cup white vinegar
- 1 tablespoon baking soda
- 5 drops essential oil
Seal the top of the spray bottle well, and shake the bottle. Spray the cleaner on kitchen surfaces just as you would when using a commercial all-purpose cleaner.
Cleaning the coffeemaker with vinegar
Another amazing use for vinegar is to clean your coffeemaker. Vinegar is ideal for getting rid of all the build-up on your coffee pot and machine that is causing your coffee not to taste as fresh and rich as it should. To perk up the taste of your coffee, clean out your machine with vinegar and water. Pour one cup of vinegar in the coffee pot. Fill the rest of the pot with water. Pour the vinegar solution into your coffeemaker as you would fresh water when making a new pot of coffee. Run the machine as if you were brewing coffee, allowing the vinegar to do its work. Run the coffee machine a second time using plain water to rinse out the vinegar. You are ready to make a fresh pot of delicious coffee!
Try cleaning with vinegar in your kitchen. All you need is a bottle of white vinegar to get started. Think of all the money you will save on cleaning supplies, let alone the benefits of natural cleaning for your home!
