Top five clubs for Carlos Vela next season

Two games to go in La Liga, and knowing full well he won’t compete in the World Cup, Carlos Vela has already made the conscious choice that he needs to focus in his future. He’s been happy in San Sebastian the last few years, but the time for a change has come and here are the top 5 most likely destinations for the Mexican goal scorer:

1. Real Sociedad

Carlos Vela was the great sensation of Real Sociedad last season, and he got the team into the Champions League. This year he hasn’t let anyone down, and has continued scoring, but the team’s performances haven’t kept up with him. However, should he stay in the team next year, he could help the Basques be even more powerful, as they could reinvest the transfer money they’ll most likely get from Antoine Griezmann, and build a stronger squad, thanks to the recovery of Granero and Canales.

2. Manchester United

Louis Van Gaal is close to being announced as Manchester United’s new manager, and with him, a revolution will come to Old Trafford. Wayne Rooney is said to be heading to PSG leaving Robin Van Persie as the single most powerful man upfront. Van Gaal likes to play with three men upfront, and he already has very good wingers in Mata and Valencia, so he will be looking for a back up forward to take the spot fo Welbeck and Chicharito.

Carlos Vela could be just the man for the job, as he can play both as a center forward and as a winger. His speed and skill upfront are one of the reasons why Van Gaal really wants to sign him.

3. Arsenal

The team where he developed in Europe still holds transfer rights over him and could sign him for a mere 4 million euro. It doesn’t seem Wenger is ready to bring him back, but the Gunners do need a forward for next season, so there is a chance Vela could be the man.

4. Juventus

Rumor has it Luis Suarez has signed for Real Madrid, which would make Liverpool tie down Carlos Tevez as his replacement.

Juventus is looking for a forward of similar characteristics as they already have a strong, tall, old-school striker type in Fernando Llorente.

Carlos Vela could take over for the Argentine, and this is an option the Mexican is specially interested in, as he has already played in Spain and England, and he’d be willing to cut his teeth with the recent champs of Serie A.

5. Borussia Dortmund

Another team losing their main target man. With Lewandoski joining Gotze at Bayern Munich, Jurgen Klopp needs a proven striker to make sure his whole infrastructure at Dortmund doesn’t come down crashing.

Vela fits the bill, as he is both young and experienced in European soccer, but more importantly, he is a shoe-in for a forward spot in a counter-attacking machine like Borussia Dortmund.

Of all his options, Dortmund is perhaps the best on in terms of finding the right place to shine for Vela, although the lack of funds at the German club will make the transfer quite difficult.
