In a match for the ages, Brazil defeated Chile from the penalty spot in the Estadio Mineirao in Belo Horizonte on Saturday.
The match nearly killed this writer from a heart attack.
The Brazilians have booked a ticket for the quarterfinals of the World Cup.
After an intense 120 minutes of play the match had to be decided from 12 yards from the goal. The players could not break the 1-1 tie.
Neymar and company won 4-3 from the penalty spot.
Regular time and extra time
Brazil took the lead n the 18th minute of the match. David Luiz got on the end of a corner and scored using his hip. A very awkward goal, but a goal nonetheless.
Despite the Brazilian’s lead, their defense looked shaky.
Chile drew the match level with a neat finish by Alexis Sanchez in the 32nd minute. The Brazilians gifted Sanchez the ball in the Brazil box, and he tucked it low and away.
The second half saw a more motivated Chilean side. The Andean nation’s players were playing with all they had. Stalwarts like Arturo Vidal and Gary Medel played despite their injuries.
Extra time saw a more lively Brazil. Hulk looked like he was going to put the hosts ahead, but the Chileans held strong.
Mauricio Pinilla struck the crossbar in the last play of extra time.
David Luiz got the party started. The guy with the hair like a Simpsons character neatly tucked the ball to Claudio Bravo’s right.

After two misses by the Brazilians and one more miss by Chile, Neymar had the responsibility of putting Brazil ahead. The Brazilian number 10 stepped up and put them up 4-3.
With all the pressure on Gonzalo Jara struck the bar and missed. Brazil were through with that miss.
A cruel result for the Chileans and well deserved win for Brazil.
