Olympic Swimmer Ian Thorpe Comes Out as Gay
Ian Thorpe finally put an end to years of speculation about his sexual orientation. The Australian swimmer revealed that he ‘is a gay man’ during a recent interview with Michael Parkinson.
Im comfortable saying Im a gay man, Thorpe added, and I dont want young people to feel the same way that I did. You can grow up, you can be comfortable and you can be gay.
Thorpe said he had wanted to come out for a long time but didnt have the strength, and was concerned about reactions from friends and family, who were surprised by his news but have been very supportive.
Im not straight, and this is only something that very recently were talking in the past two weeks Ive been comfortable telling the closest people around me exactly that.
To Everyone who has sent a message of support I sincerely Thank you!
