Affinity Health Plan Continues Partnership with American Heart Association for Brooklyn Walk for Healthier Lifestyles

Preventive care is key and starts with our children through primary
care

BROOKLYN, N.Y.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–For the 2nd consecutive year, Affinity Health Plan will join
the American Heart Association in support of its annual Brooklyn Heart &
Stroke Walk on Sunday, September 20th. The annual Brooklyn
Walk registration begins at 9AM at Cadman Plaza with participants then
walking through Brooklyn Bridge Park to the Brooklyn Promenade.

As a non-profit organization that provides healthcare solutions to the
community, Affinity is committed to starting preventive care and
healthcare education at an early age. To further demonstrate that
commitment, the Affinity family plans to walk with their children along
with others from local schools and youth organizations.

“Preventive care is critical in eliminating heart disease as well as
other chronic diseases,” stated Sharon Deans, MD, Senior Vice President,
Chief Medical Officer of Affinity Health Care. “As champions of rich and
rewarding lives, we are committed to improving the health of our members
and the community through primary care. Annual visits to our doctors
along with healthy food choices and regular exercise can greatly assist
in helping us achieve the national 2020 goal of reducing heart disease
by 20 percent.”

“Affinity Health Plan is a great partner of the American Heart
Association and the Brooklyn Heart & Stroke Walk,” stated Maggie D.
Beaute-Lucien, Executive Director of the American Heart Association.
“Affinity shares our mission of reducing heart disease as well as our
objectives in promoting physical activity and heart healthy living in a
fun environment with friends, family and co-workers.”

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, chronic
diseases, which include heart attack and stroke, are responsible for 7
out of 10 deaths each year. Chronic illnesses such as heart disease
account for 86 percent of our nation’s healthcare costs.

“Affinity believes that the first step in preventive care is annual
visits, not just for our children to their pediatricians, but for adults
to primary care physicians,” Dr. Deans said. “That’s why Affinity wants
our members to begin viewing their Primary Care Physicians as
Specialists in Preventive Care.”
