Apira Science’s iGrow Becomes First Wearable Laser Device to be Cleared by ANVISA in Brazil

BOCA RATON, Fla.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–#LLLTApira
Science, Inc.
has received clearance to sell and distribute the iGrow
Hair Growth System
in Brazil, bringing the benefits of low-level
light therapy (LLLT) to the homes of consumers in one of the largest
beauty markets in the world. The iGrow is the first wearable, home use
laser device to be cleared by ANVISA, the Brazilian regulatory agency
responsible for approving cosmetics, health services, medical devices,
and more. Apira will distribute the iGrow in Brazil in partnership with Onderma,
a leading distributor of dermatological products.

With ANVISA clearance, iGrow is looking to capitalize on a booming
market for hair care products among Brazilian consumers. The country
represents the second
largest hair care market in the world
, after the U.S., and the third
largest consumer market for beauty products
overall. In 2014, women
alone spent more than $7.7 billion on hair care
.

“Brazilian men and women alike dedicate much time, effort, and money
into maintaining healthy hair,” said Jeff Braile, president of Apira
Science. “By achieving ANVISA clearance for the iGrow and partnering
with Onderma we’re giving consumers in this country a clinically proven
LLLT treatment to fight hereditary hair loss and grow thicker, healthier
hair.”

The iGrow Hair Growth System is an innovative, safe, and effective
hands-free LLLT hair growth device cleared by the FDA for at-home use.
In clinical studies, the iGrow’s patented red light technology, which
consists of a highly productive combination of red laser and LED diodes,
increased hair growth 37 percent after 16 weeks of therapy, and nearly
doubled total hair growth 10 weeks faster than hand-held laser combs and
brushes.

“Onderma is committed to bringing Brazilian shoppers some of the best
existing dermatological products in the world, and the iGrow fits well
within that category,” said Leandro Costa, president of Onderma. “As a
wearable LLLT device, iGrow is a convenient treatment for individuals
looking to improve the quantity and quality of hair.”

The iGrow has received clearances from dozens of countries across the
globe, including the United States, Canada, Mexico, Korea, Singapore,
and China. iGrow is also available to consumers in all 28
European Union nations
, Turkey, India, and the United Kingdom.
