Bilzin Sumberg Acquires Premier Trial Team

Sumberg, one of Miami’s leading commercial law firms, today

announced that Marty

Steinberg and Jeffrey

Gutchess, two renowned trial lawyers, have joined the Firm.

Steinberg and Gutchess, formerly of Hunton & Williams, are joined by

several associates.

“We are delighted to have this superb group of litigators join us,” said John

Sumberg, managing partner of Bilzin Sumberg Baena Price & Axelrod

LLP. “They bring an extraordinary track record of success in

representing clients in high-profile, complex litigation matters

nationwide. The team will deepen the bench in a wide range of

specialties such as class actions, international arbitration, patent

litigation, corporate and securities litigation, government

investigations, white collar defense, and health care.”

Mr. Steinberg, a former U.S. Senate Chief Counsel and Chief of the U.S.

Department of Justice’s Organized Crime Office in New York, is a Fellow

of both the International Academy of Trial Lawyers and American College

of Trial Lawyers. He was recognized as Miami’s “Bet-the-Company

Litigation Lawyer of the Year” by Best

Lawyers in America 2012, in addition to being recognized as one

of the Top 10 lawyers by Florida

Super Lawyers. Mr. Steinberg will serve as co-chair of Bilzin

Sumberg’s Litigation Practice with current chair Michael

Mr. Steinberg and Mr. Gutchess represent Fortune 500 companies in

litigation matters across a variety of practices and industries. Their

clients include major multi-national corporations such as Bacardi,

Carnival and Ryder. They are both former recipients of the Daily

Business Review’s “Most Effective Lawyer” award for class action defense.

Mr. Steinberg’s practice focuses on commercial litigation, including

contract disputes, class actions, business torts, securities litigation,

health care fraud and abuse investigations, intellectual property,

antitrust and product liability matters.

Mr. Gutchess’ practice focuses on complex litigation, class action

defense, corporate governance and securities, internal investigations,

and international arbitration. He has extensive experience in national

and nationally publicized class actions, including actions in the

pharmaceutical, insurance, vacation, alcohol beverage, and cellular

service industries.

“We are pleased to welcome Marty, Jeff, and the associates” stated

Michael Kreitzer, head of Bilzin Sumberg’s Litigation Group. “Marty and

Jeff’s trial experience and track record throughout the country sets

them apart from their peers. They are an extraordinary complement to our

already strong litigation practice.”

This acquisition continues the growth of Bilzin Sumberg’s Litigation

Practice. In June of 2011, David

M. Gersten, former Judge in Florida’s Third District Court of

Appeals, joined as head of the firm’s Appellate Practice. In 2010, the

firm brought in Jose

M. Ferrer, further expanding the firm’s International Arbitration &

Litigation practice.
