Concord Law School Appoints Martin Pritikin as Dean
Harvard Law Graduate and California Attorney Takes Charge of
Nation’s First Fully Online Law School
LOS ANGELES–(BUSINESS WIRE)–#lawschool—Concord
Law School of Kaplan University, the nation’s first fully online law
school, today announced that Martin Pritikin, an experienced lawyer and
educator, has been appointed the dean of the school.
In this role, Pritikin will be responsible for providing academic
leadership for the school’s programs, faculty, and students while
advancing the school’s mission to provide an affordable and accessible
education for aspiring attorneys and others seeking to learn the law. He
has committed his professional and academic career to integrating theory
with practice. His areas of expertise include business litigation, civil
litigation, criminal law, jail overcrowding, Jewish law, and white
collar crime.
Pritikin joins the school with more than 15 years of professional
experience, most recently serving as the associate dean of Whittier Law
School in California.

Pritikin, who officially starts at Concord on July 5th,
earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Southern
California and his juris doctor degree from Harvard Law School, where he
graduated magna cum laude and served on the Harvard Law Review. He was
the regional champion in the ATLA Student Trial Advocacy Competition as
well as a semi-finalist in Harvard’s Ames Moot Court Competition.
Upon graduating from law school, Pritikin spent several years practicing
law with Quinn Emanuel in Los Angeles, where his clients included
Lockheed Martin, Fox Studios, and Union Bank of California. He entered
academia full-time in 2004 at Whittier Law School, where he has taught
courses on evidence, advanced litigation, criminal law, and wills and
trusts. He has maintained his connection to practice even while in
academia, including as a summer volunteer at a prosecutor’s office and
as a consultant on a multi-year litigation against Lehman Brothers in
bankruptcy court.
While at Whittier, Pritikin won the law school’s Teacher of the Year
award (twice), and was the first to design and implement a hybrid online
“flipped” classroom model. As an administrator, Pritikin founded and
directed Whittier’s Institute for Trial and Appellate Practice, served
as the school’s associate dean for experiential learning, associate dean
of the law school, and acting dean. In 2013, he spearheaded the adoption
of the school’s “Experience the Law” curriculum, which was named among
the ‘Most
Innovative’ in the nation by National Jurist. In 2015, he launched
the law school’s incubator program, which provides recent graduates with
the infrastructure and legal and business training to launch their own
law practices.
He has addressed both substantive legal issues and the need for reform
in legal education as an author for the Harvard Law Review, the Yale Law
and Policy Review, the Colorado Law Review, the Wisconsin Law Review,
the Cardozo Law Journal, and the Journal of Legal Education, among
others.
Pritikin replaces Interim Dean Larry David who is returning to private
practice.
