Griffin Structures Congratulates City of Huntington Beach on New Senior Center in Central Park

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–The City of Huntington Beach recently opened the doors to its new Senior
Center in Central Park
. Set on a
five-acre site, the $21 million Center continues the City’s focus on
wellness and “active aging,” keeping seniors moving and participating in
the community. Griffin
Structures
provided construction management services for this
state-of-the-art facility.

“Huntington Beach offers a wide range of senior services and activities,
and this facility will enable the City to house and expand those
services in a single location,” said Griffin Structures CEO Roger
Torriero
. “Griffin is pleased to have been able to assist in the
delivery of this comprehensive Center.”

More than 3,000 attended the grand opening, which featured tours of the
37,565 square foot facility. The Center has space for classes and
activities, including a computer lab, game room and a well-equipped
fitness pavilion. The facility has a commercial kitchen for the City’s
lunch and meal delivery programs, and a transportation pick up area and
lounge to serve its Surf City Seniors on the Go program. The Center also
houses care managers and resource specialists providing support services.

“The City Council nurtured the initial vision for a new Senior Center,
approved by voters in 2006,” said Travis Hopkins, Huntington Beach
Public Works Director. “This Center will fill many needs and provide new
opportunities for our senior community.”

The two-year project began with a vacant site in the City’s 343-acre
Central Park, the largest city-owned park in Orange County. City
Engineer Tom Herbel said many contributed to making the Center a
reality. “The facility transitioned what was once an undeveloped area of
Central Park, while still maintaining ample open space, capturing the
expansive views, offering access to walking trails and enhancing
services for seniors.”
