Kaiser Permanente Southern California Launches My Health Manager en Español

Kaiser Permanente Southern California today announced the launch of a Spanish version of My Health Manager on kp.org, the health care provider’s online health engagement tool. The award-winning website makes it easy and convenient for members to connect with their health information and their care providers 24/7.

“Our own studies have confirmed that our members have better health outcomes, higher satisfaction, and higher re-enrollment because of My Health Manager,” said John Mattison, MD, Assistant Medical Director, and Chief Medical Informatics Officer, Kaiser Permanente Southern California. “Translating these convenient services for our Spanish-speaking members is certain to both enhance their experience and support their personal efforts to thrive with our care.”

The Spanish version of My Health Manager translates pages on kp.org that enable members to view their medical record, view lab test results, schedule appointments and email physicians. Personal health information will remain in English.

Latinos make up 40 percent of Kaiser Permanente Southern California’s membership, making the move to a Spanish translation of the popular tool a natural step for the organization. In addition to the My Health Manager Spanish translation, Kaiser Permanente also expanded the Spanish content available on kp.org for all Kaiser Permanente regions, including all primary pages and key functionality like registration, sign on and navigation.

Go to www.kp.org and click the Español link in the upper right hand corner of the page to view the new kp.org Spanish experience.

“The public has been able to access thousands of pages of Spanish health content on kp.org for years,” said Christine Paige, senior vice president for marketing and Internet services. “Launching a Spanish translation of My Health Manager in Southern California is an important next step in our plan to tailor our digital experiences to members’ preferences.”

Kaiser Permanente plans to launch Spanish My Health Manager in other regions and will continue to personalize kp.org based on member needs.

More than 1.5 million Southern California members are registered to use My Health Manager on kp.org. In the first half of 2013, members in Southern California viewed nearly 6 million test results, sent 1.8 million emails to physician and schedule 430,000 appointments.

“Nationwide, 66 percent of our eligible members are registered for My Health Manager on kp.org,” said Paige. “We know that access to My Health Manager is associated with improved health outcomes, member satisfaction and member retention. Making this already easy and convenient tool more accessible for Spanish-speaking members is an important piece of their integrated care experience.”

Kaiser Permanente received six 2012 eHealthcare Leadership awards including the top Organizational Commitment award for its commitment to using online and mobile technologies to support its mission of total health through patient engagement.

A key differentiating feature of My Health Manager is its direct connection to Kaiser Permanente HealthConnect®, one of the most robust and sophisticated electronic health records in the world. By providing members with access to the same clinical information their doctors see, and with unique tools to interact with their providers and health plan, My Health Manager allows patients to become more engaged in their own health care, going well beyond the standard personal health records populated solely by claims data.
