“Voices of Iran” Rally on September 28

U.S. dignitaries to join major gathering of Iranians in protest of
Hassan Rouhani appearance at UN General Assembly

NEW YORK–(BUSINESS WIRE)–The following was issued by Organization of Iranian-American Communities:

As the Iranian regime’s President Hassan Rouhani attends the United
Nations General Assembly on Monday, September 28, representatives of
Iranian-American communities from across the U.S. will hold a major
rally – “Voices of Iran” – to denounce the deteriorating state of human
rights in Iran and the recent wave of executions during Rouhani’s tenure
– more than 2,000 so far.

Several second-generation Iranians are expected to speak on the need to
protect freedoms and establish democracy in Iran. Read some of the
stories of the protestors here.

The rally follows recent reports of grave concerns about unprecedented
violations of human rights under Rouhani’s watch from both the UN
Secretary General and the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of
human rights in Iran.

A bi-partisan group of U.S. dignitaries and Members of Congress will
also participate in the rally. They will warn that ignoring ongoing
human rights violations in Iran as well as the growth of terrorism and
meddling in the region will only embolden the regime and allow it to
continue brutal crackdowns and escalating violence.

A partial list of speakers follows:

  • Hon. Bill Richardson, former UN ambassador and Energy Secretary
  • Hon. Tom Ridge, former Homeland Security Secretary and Governor of
    Pennsylvania;
  • Dr. Allan Dershowitz, former Harvard Law School professor.

The rally will raise awareness about the hundreds of thousands of people
around the world who are calling for regime change, freedom, and
democracy in Iran.
