Volunteers to Build Playground at Dream Weavers of Georgia in Alpharetta

  • Alpharetta residents and UnitedHealthcare employees to build
    2,538-square-foot playground in six hours

ALPHARETTA, Ga.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Today more than 200 Alpharetta residents and UnitedHealthcare employees
will build a new playground at Dream Weavers of Georgia’s Kalen Center.

The new 2,538-square-foot playground will include a Cozy Cocoon, Spiral
Slide, Tic-Tac-Toe Activity Wall and more. The playground’s design is
based on drawings created by children from Dream Weavers who
participated in a “design day” event in May. The new playground will
help give more than 3,600 kids in Alpharetta the play-filled childhood
they deserve.

Dream Weavers of Georgia, Inc., is a nonprofit organization dedicated to
enriching the lives of foster children, with a goal to create
opportunities and provide resources that promote educational, emotional
and social well-being of Georgia’s foster children. The new playground
will serve as a “live lab” to teach parents how to engage with their
children and to assist in reuniting families. It will offer a safe space
where treatment team members can observe the children in play in a
natural environment.

The volunteers will work with KaBOOM!, a national nonprofit organization
that helps bring balanced and active play into the daily lives of
children. The Alpharetta playground is the 2,785th
KaBOOM!-organized build since 1996, and the 20th to be
created by KaBOOM! and UnitedHealthcare.

“We’re incredibly grateful to UnitedHealthcare, KaBOOM! and all the
volunteers for their help in bringing the joy of play to the children
and families Dream Weavers serves,” said Fred Moeller, founder, Dream
Weavers. “We’re thrilled to have this awesome, new playground that will
benefit hundreds of children for years to come.”

“UnitedHealthcare is honored to help build a playground with a nonprofit
partner who works hard to serve children in the foster care system and
their families,” said Garland Scott, CEO, UnitedHealthcare of Georgia.
“We believe the new playground at Dream Weavers will help inspire
children to participate in healthy activities by playing and exercising
outdoors.”

This playground build is part of UnitedHealthcare’s “Do Good. Live
Well.” program, an employee-volunteer initiative dedicated to decreasing
hunger and obesity, inspiring service and encouraging volunteerism. For
