Friday Morning Downtown Rush Hour Event Aims to Promote Community and
Help Transform Stereotypes of City’s Homeless Neighbors
AUSTIN, Texas–(BUSINESS WIRE)–#ServingGoodness–Mobile Loaves & Fishes (MLF), a social outreach ministry that has been
serving the homeless community in Central Texas for nearly two decades,
is leveraging the start of SXSW and downtown morning rush hour to
inspire Austinites to rethink homelessness in our city.
Hundreds of Mobile Loaves & Fishes volunteers, along with homeless and
formerly homeless men and women, will join together in downtown Austin
on Friday morning March 10th to promote the importance of community — an
underlying theme in the new book Welcome
Homeless, released this week by MLF founder and CEO Alan Graham.
“Commuters, pedestrians and SXSW visitors should expect to see plenty of
cardboard signs in downtown Austin Friday morning designed to draw
attention to homelessness in our great city,” said Graham, a former
Austinite of the Year and key thought leader in the U.S. on issues
involving homelessness. “Welcome Homeless will help people gain a
better understanding of the inherent need for community and
relationships in our lives. They also will be struck with the
realization that housing will never solve homelessness in our country –
but community will.”
In addition to his role as CEO of Mobile Loaves & Fishes, Graham is the
lead visionary behind Austin’s Community
First! Village — an innovative 27-acre master planned community that
provides affordable, permanent housing for men and women who have been
living on the streets.
