With Christmas come and gone, the next thing to look forward to is the New Year’s celebration. It’s the time for hopeful new beginnings and fresh starts. SEE ALSO: JenCarlos Canela will welcome 2015 by making history It’s also a time to look back on the good, the bad, and the ugly of 2014 so we’ve come up with a few things to reflect on that went viral this year. 1) When Cristian Castro showed us a bit too much The Mexican singer tweeted a photo of himself in nothing but a banana hammock following his massage. He captioned it “Masajito con saiote!!!,” who we can only assume was his masseuse. It obviously caught the attention of many, rendering 9,000 retweets and gaining more than 4,000 favorites. 2) Lionel Messi’s scandalous red suit Argentinean soccer star Messi definitely stood out at the FIFA Ballon d’Or Gala when he showed up in a full red suit. Many were quick to compare him to Ron Burgundy, giving Messi’s fashion sense a bad name. 3) ALS Ice Bucket Challenge The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge was the talk of social media where people would dump a bucket of ice water on their heads, challenge someone else, and hopefully promote awareness of the disease. Celebrities such as Jennifer Lopez, David Bisbal, LeBron James, Shakira and even President Barack Obama got involved in the social media trend. 4) The Dancing Diva Kid The 15 year old boy, Brendan Jordan, video bombed a Las Vegas reporter with an intense dance routine in the background of her shoot. His suave moves and poses went viral, gaining the attention of thousands, even American Apparel who gave him his own ad. 5) Miami Marlins’ Game Cam Star Brendan Jordan wasn’t the only dancing diva around this year. One little kid became famous for his crazy moves on the Miami Marlins fan cam. When he notices the camera lands on him, he starts to gyrate his hips and lift his shirt for what led to a hilarious reaction from the Internet. SEE ALSO: The top five moments in soccer of 2014 6) #AlexFromTarget The crowd is unpredictable: #AlexFromTarget meme turns regular employee into Internet superstar http://t.co/0G0F0KglN4 rt @augieray #viral — CH (@C_Harg) December 13, 2014 After a teenage girl who fell for his looks posted a picture of him on twitter, Alex from Target gained thousands of followers. The hashtag #alexfromtarget was trending worldwide and even attracted the attention of talk show host Ellen DeGeneres who invited the 16-year-old on her show to chat about his 15 minutes of fame. For the record, Alex Lee went from having under 100 friends on Twitter to over 740K. 7) Kim Kardashian breaks the Internet In her attempt to “break the internet,” Kim Kardashian’s nudes on Paper magazine is pretty recent. Must we say more? 8) Jay-Z and Solange … cat fight? The cat fight of the year goes to none other than Solange Knowles and Jay-Z. In May, TMZ released footage of what sparked a huge reaction on social media; Beyonce’s sister, Solange, appearing to throw punches and kicks at Jay-Z, her brother-in-law. Hundreds of meme’s came pouring out after the footage was released of the two’s battle in the elevator. 9) Donald Sterling. Be careful with what you say in public…and private apparently. Previous owner of the Los Angeles Clippers, Donald Sterling knows just the wrong thing to say. After a private recording of him making racists comments was exposed to the public, Sterling publicly apologized and explained that he wasn’t a racist. Too late though, the damage had been done and Sterling reached an agreement to sell the Clippers for $2 billion to Steve Ballmer.
‘Gangnam Style’ broke YouTube’s view counter

“We never thought a video would be watched in numbers greater than a 32-bit integer (=2,147,483,647 views), but that was before we met Psy. “Gangnam Style” has been viewed so many times we have to upgrade!”, announced YouTube. It used to be that having a million YouTube views was cool. It used to be that 800 million views would be enough to make you YouTube’s most watched clip, but now not even a figure of 2,147,483,647 views is enough to contain the chronically popular Gangnam Style music video by Psy. At of this moment, Gangnam Style is nearly 5 million views above the earlier limit, so YouTube’s promise of “bigger and bigger numbers” is already being put into effect. Going to the video page and hovering over the view counter will show an animated math easter egg — can you figure it out? SEE ALSO: Angel y Khriz are back in the game with ‘Wepa’ “Gangnam Style” is the 18th single by the South Korean musician. The song was released in July 2012 and debuted at number one on South Korea’s Gaon Chart. On December 21, 2012, “Gangnam Style” became the first YouTube video to reach one billion views. As of May 31, 2014, the song’s music video has been viewed over two billion times on YouTube, and it is the site’s most watched video after surpassing Justin Bieber’s single “Baby”. The phrase “Gangnam Style” is a Korean neologism that refers to a lifestyle associated with the Gangnam District of Seoul. The song and its accompanying music video went viral in August 2012 and have influenced popular culture worldwide since then. “Gangnam Style” received mixed reviews, with praise going to its catchy beat and Psy’s amusing dance moves (which themselves have become a phenomenon) in the music video and during live performances in various locations around the world. In September 2012, “Gangnam Style” was recognized by Guinness World Records as the most “liked” video on YouTube. It subsequently won Best Video at the MTV Europe Music Awards held later that year. It became a source of parodies and reaction videos by many different individuals, groups and organizations. SEE ALSO: Why China Lacks Gangnam Style By the end of 2012, the song had topped the music charts of more than 30 countries including Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Russia, Spain, and the United Kingdom. As the song continued to rapidly gain popularity and ubiquity, its signature dance moves were attempted by many notable political leaders such as the British Prime Minister David Cameron, U.S. President Barack Obama, and United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, who hailed it as a “force for world peace”.
