Cristiano Ronaldo, who has a knee injury that keeps him off the soccer field lately, has made the most out of the days of obligatory rest. The soccer player granted an interview to a Portuguese television station where he didn’t speak about sports, but on his personal life instead.

The Real Madrid player, who is 29 years old, told the host Judite de Sousa that his relationship with the spectacular Russian model Irina Shayk is going very well, but he’s not planning to marry her soon.

“Like any normal person I want to get married, but it’s a very important step. I’m young and I’m not ready yet,” admitted Ronaldo, without specifying if, in the future, Shayk will be “The One”.

A proud single parent

But, “Was Ronaldo mature enough to decide to become a father at age 24?” the host wanted to know.

“I’ve always been very mature. I´ve been living alone since I was 11 years old and at 18, I moved to London,” replied the player, very serious. Looking at the camera, Ronaldo explicitly asked that his decision to become a single parent be respected, and he assured that the child “is the son of Cristiano Ronaldo, is Portuguese and is and will be a very happy boy.”

The influence of his mother, Dolores Aveiro

The most important woman in Ronaldo’s life remains his mother, Dolores Aveiro, who has just published her autobiography, entitled Mother Courage. In the book, Dolores confesses that she thought of abortion when she learned she was expecting her third child, who was none other than Cristiano.

“Everything is in the book and my mother told me about it,” said the player, who publicly expressed his love and gratitude to Dolores, with whom he has an excellent relationship. “It’s a very interesting book, and the family is proud of her. It’s something she wanted to do and you have to respect her decision,” he said.

The book “Mother Courage’ relays the story of Dolores’s difficult life. Motherless at age 5, she also faced breast cancer and suffered through her husband’s alcoholism.

The family went through serious financial difficulties until Cristiano’s talent as a soccer player pulled them out of poverty. “I know how much my mother suffered,” Ronaldo said in the interview.

Cristiano Ronaldo Jr. is “a happy child”

Dolores is, in fact, the one who has acted as a mother to Cristiano Ronaldo Jr. “I’m going to have a child and I want you to be the one to help me raise him and love him, as you have always done with me and my siblings. You’ll never know who the baby’s mother is,” his son told her. So Dolores picked up her grandson at a clinic in Florida, while Ronaldo was playing the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. The child attends an American school, and also speaks Portuguese and Spanish.

A “Catholic” and “a citizen of the world”

Ronaldo also spoke of his religious beliefs: “My family and I are Catholics.” He said he feels great when he goes to church, and would love to attend mass more often, but unfortunately that’s not always easy because his fame attracts too many people.

The footballer also spoke of his life in Madrid, a city where he feels “great” and where he would like to stay for the rest of his professional career. But he wouldn’t mind living in the USA, Dubai or Portugal as well.

Ronaldo considers himself “a citizen of the world” who loves to travel. We can be sure he doesn´t lack the financial resources or good company to do so!
