ALBANY, N.Y. /AP — An official with knowledge of the trip says President Barack Obama will visit an Albany nanotechnology center on Tuesday, not a computer chip manufacturer in Saratoga County as originally planned.

The president will tour the College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering at the state University at Albany.

Obama had planned to visit GlobalFoundries, 20 miles north of Albany.

The official, who spoke Friday on condition of anonymity because the trip hasn’t yet been announced, didn’t know why the site was changed.

The original announcement Thursday came on the same day a champion of the GlobalFoundries project, former state Senate Majority Leader Joseph Bruno, was indicted on federal fraud charges that he used his influence to make money in his sideline consulting business. None of the allegations involve the chip plant.
