93% of South Carolina Virtual Charter School Students Benefitted Academically in 2016

— South Carolina online public school celebrates start of 2016-2017
school year —

COLUMBIA, S.C.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Students at South
Carolina Virtual Charter School
(SCVCS), an accredited,
full-time, online public charter school, will begin their 2016-2017
school year on August 15th as the program marks its 9th year
of operation in the state. According to a spring 2016 survey conducted
by Edge Research, 93% of the families with students enrolled in the
school during the 2015-2016 school year felt that their child had
benefitted academically from the curriculum.

SCVCS is open to all students in grades K through 12 who reside in South
Carolina. The rigorous and engaging curriculum offered by the school
includes courses in language arts/English literature, math, science,
history, art and music, as well as world languages for grades 3-12, and
elective and Advanced Placement® courses for high school students.
Students who qualify can take part in a robust Advanced Learner Program,
designed to help top students do more with their education. SCVCS
students also have the ability to participate in their school district’s
extra-curricular athletics and activities.

“Our family’s schedule requires much more flexibility, and we’re happy
with the strong curriculum that SCVCS provides,” said Edward Hull, whose
daughter, Zelena, will be starting her sophomore year in the fall. “In
addition to the standard courses, we’re given the option to enroll in
electives such as marketing, which is perfect for my daughter, who is
currently growing in her career as a singer and songwriter.”

At SCVCS, state-certified teachers provide instruction, guidance and
support, and regularly interact with students and parents via email,
web-based classrooms, online discussions, phone and face-to-face
meetings. As a public school option, there is no tuition.

SCVCS was recently awarded the national AdvancED® accreditation, which
ensures parents and students greater ease in transferring credits and
grades between schools within South Carolina and other states. In
addition, families gain greater access to student federal loans,
scholarships, post-secondary education, and military programs that
require students to attend an accredited school. The rigorous criteria
to achieve the AdvancED® accreditation demonstrates that SCVCS is
committed to, and is successful in, providing quality instruction,
enhancing student achievement, recognizing student achievement, and
encouraging professional growth.

“Our individualized approach to learning helps students get what they
need out of their education, because every student learns differently,”
said Dr. Cherry Daniel, Head of School at SCVCS. “Our high academic
standards and career and technology options give each student the best
opportunity to prepare for life after graduation.”

The SCVCS College and Career Guidance Model provides dedicated
counselors who guide students into appropriate coursework beginning in
the 8th grade through graduation. Counselors work with students and
their parents to complete an Individual Graduation Plan (IGP) annually
to prepare students for the career of their choice. In addition, SCVCS
offers 11 Career Clusters for students who want to hone in on specific
areas of interest such as business, health services, law enforcement,
and computer technology. Students may also choose to enroll in a dual
credit program, allowing them to earn college credits while still in
high school, ultimately reducing a family’s cost for college.

SCVCS families benefit from the flexibility that comes with online
access to an engaging, meticulous curriculum. Students do not need to
move at the same pace that an entire classroom would move – at SCVCS,
they can move more quickly or take more time depending on how swiftly
they master certain skills and concepts. In this way, SCVCS is designed
to give each student an individualized learning experience.

SCVCS is still accepting enrollments for this fall. To learn more about
