Arthritis Awareness Month: The Right Time to Look at Joint Care Alternatives

Research shows popular remedies could be ineffective or carry serious
health risks

MANCHESTER, N.H.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–May is National Arthritis Awareness month, an occasion to highlight a
disease that affects over 50 million Americans and is the number one
cause of disability in the U.S.1 During this observation, it
is important to consider advances in treatment options, as a multitude
of studies have surfaced that suggest traditional remedies may not be as
safe or effective as once assumed–shedding light on some newer options
that could help relieve joint discomfort for millions.

Given the FDA’s urgent priority on non-pharmacologic approaches to pain
treatment2, treating joint discomfort now has a new
dimension. Findings suggest that some common prescriptions and over the
counter remedies could be ineffective or dangerous:

  • The Lancet published studies
that show for older patients, acetaminophen provides no more
osteoarthritis pain relief and improvement in function than a placebo.3
  • According to the American College of Rheumatology, popular
supplements to treat osteoarthritis, glucosamine and chondroitin,
show modest to no improvement compared to placebo in pain relief or
    joint damage.4
  • In a recent
    study
published by The New England Journal of Medicine, the
FDA called finding non-pharmacologic approaches to pain
treatment an urgent priority–citing the epidemic of opiate abuse.5
  • According to the Arthritis Foundation, popular nonsteroidal
anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as aspirin and ibuprofen
are options for arthritis pain relief, but serious risks can include
ulcers, bleeding, heart attack, stroke, and kidney damage. The
Osteoarthritis Research Society International (OARSI) recommends that
people at high risk for side effects like cardiovascular disease or GI
bleeding should avoid using NSAIDs entirely. 6
  • GOPO®
    Rosehip with Galactolipids,
the UK’s #3 rated joint care
supplement is the only product of its kind to contain a high level of
GOPO–a key component of the rose-hip. In a clinical
    study
conducted at the University of Copenhagen in Denmark, GOPO
was shown to help reduce joint pain and stiffness in up to 82% of
    people.7*

Jonathan Groves, Jakemans, Inc. president said, “With 1 in 5 adults and
300,000 children affected by arthritis and joint pain, there is a huge
need for additional remedies for these conditions. Doctors and patients
are seeking safer and healthier alternatives to relieve joint pain.
Given the new research and guidelines on over the counter medications
and the dangers of opioid use, those who suffer from joint and arthritis
pain should consider GOPO®
Rosehip with Galactolipids
as a natural alternative for relief–and
it’s backed by numerous research studies.”

Laboratory studies have shown that GOPO can switch off certain genes
responsible for producing proteins and enzymes that have been implicated
in inflammatory joint destruction and switch on genes that help to
produce collagen and cartilage, which are essential components of a
healthy joint.*

GOPO®
Rosehip with Galactolipids
is the only product of its kind to
contain a high level of GOPO–a key component of the rosehip, which may
play a valuable role in the care of joints and joint tissues.*

GOPO® has been evaluated in numerous rigorously-conducted,
placebo-controlled, clinical trials involving hundreds of patients with
difficult-to-treat chronic joint conditions including osteoarthritis and
rheumatoid arthritis. Efficacy results have been consistently positive
and evidence supporting the benefits of GOPO® has been presented around
the world at numerous clinical meetings and many studies have been
published in peer-reviewed journals.*
