Bears vs Babies (BvB) Game Reaches over $2.5 Million in Funding Reports Bear Food

The creators of Exploding Kittens are back with a new game

LOS ANGELES–(BUSINESS WIRE)–#ElanLee–Bears vs Babies card game, created by Elan Lee and Matthew Inman (The
Oatmeal), raised over $2.5 million in total funding on Kickstarter with
over 67,000 backers. BvB completed the original $10,000 funding goal in
less than 10 minutes after its launch, and the campaign has only 2 days
left.

After their record-breaking success with Exploding Kittens (which raised
more money on Kickstarter than any game in history), Lee and Inman are
back with a new game. Bears vs Babies is described as a card game of
“Strategic Benevolent Betrayal” in which players build handsome,
incredible monsters who go to war with horrible, awful babies.

Having raised more than enough money for their initial print run, the
crowd-funded game has stopped trying to raise funds, and is
concentrating instead on raising a crowd. To unlock new game features
like an elaborate box, and exclusive custom cards, the creators
challenged their backers with tasks such as decorating everyday objects
in fur or taking pictures of real “bearded babies” and then posting them
on social media.

“We’re on Kickstarter because building a game with a community is the
best way in the world to make a great game,” said Elan Lee, Creator of
BvB. “We need our community to help us test out the final card
distribution, tweak some of the rules, and tell us the best way to
communicate the mechanics.”

Thousands of backers have pledged $25 or more to support BvB. The card
game, which is kid friendly (ages 7+), is also available as a NSFW
upgrade for $35. Each order includes 112 cards designed by Matthew Inman
and can be enjoyed by up to 4 players.

The success of Exploding Kittens, and now BvB, represents a renewed
interest in tabletop games. Sales of tabletop games have surged in
recent years by 20-30%, and with the holidays around the corner that
trend is expected to continue. Gaming enthusiasts and those
rediscovering the joy of tabletop games now have 2 days left to reserve
their order of Bears vs Babies.

About Bears vs Babies

Bears vs Babies (BvB) is a hilarious game of strategic, benevolent
betrayal. To play, two to four players sit in a circle, each drawing
cards from the deck. There are three types of cards in the game: bears,
babies, and actions. Bears (and other creatures) are constructed using
cards that contain heads, chainsaw arms, tank legs, etc. Babies are
immediately put into the center of the table to form the baby army.
Action cards can modify creatures by doing things like cutting off limbs
or provoking the baby army to attack. The goal of the game is to build a
creature army that’s strong enough to defend itself against the oncoming
onslaught of babies while forcing your opponents into battles that they
are not yet prepared to fight.

Any babies defeated during a battle are put into the player’s “tummy”
and whoever has the most babies in their tummy by the end of the game
wins!
