Citi Executive Named on UN’s Panel on Women’s Economic Empowerment

LONDON–(BUSINESS WIRE)–A senior executive in Citi’s EMEA research division has been named a
member of the newly announced UN
High-Level Panel on Women’s Economic Empowerment
.

Tina Fordham, who joined Citi in 2003 is the bank’s first chief global
political analyst, and is responsible for the coverage of macro global
political and socio-economic trends. Fordham was asked by the UN
Secretary-General, Ban-Ki Moon, to join the panel following her
presentation on ‘Women and the Economy’ for UN Women at the 70th UN
General Assembly. The inaugural meeting of the high-level panel was held
on Tuesday during the 60th session of the Commission on the
Status of Women. Operating under the aegis of the UN Secretary-General,
it intends to put women’s economic empowerment at the top of the
international agenda, including by defining actions to speed up progress
under the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. A global consultation
took place during the continuation of the meeting yesterday.

Fordham said; “I am thrilled to be part of this UN initiative to promote
Women’s Economic Empowerment. In my capacity as Citi’s Chief Global
Political Analyst and co-author of our GPS report “Women
in the Economy
“, I look forward to the opportunity to collaborate
with my fellow panellists on how to move this agenda forward. As the
global economy is in search of growth and countries must find ways to
galvanise the talents of all their citizens, the time for action is now.
Women are the ultimate Global Growth Generators.”

Tina will be involved in producing two reports for the UN
Secretary-General. Lead author Professor Laura Tyson will draw on
rigorous evidence and broad-based consultations to highlight good
practices and provide action-oriented recommendations. The process aims
to promote women’s leadership in driving economic growth, and
galvanizing commitment by governments, the private sector, the United
Nations system and other stakeholders.

The panel is co-chaired by Simona Scarpaleggia, CEO of IKEA Switzerland
and President Luis Solís of Costa Rica. Managing Director of the IMF,
Christine Lagarde and The Secretary of State of the United Kingdom,
Justine Greening, are also panel members.
