CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL LOS ANGELES PARTNERS WITH THE BARBARA SINATRA
CHILDREN’S CENTER FOR THE COACHELLA VALLEY’S INAUGURAL #MAKEMARCHMATTER
CAMPAIGN

The collaboration aims to raise $250,000 in the desert communities
during March to support children’s healthcare services at CHLA and BSCC

Children’s
Hospital Los Angeles
(CHLA) has partnered with the Barbara Sinatra
Children’s Center (BSCC) in conjunction with CHLA’s Make
March Matter
™ fundraising campaign. The goal is to raise at least
$250,000 during the month of March in the Coachella Valley to provide
services for children and families at CHLA and BSCC.

Make March Matter™ is an annual fundraising campaign that kicked off in
2016 as an effort to build awareness and support for Children’s Hospital
Los Angeles—a nonprofit pediatric hospital dedicated to creating hope
and building healthier futures. By offering more than 350 programs and
services just for children, California’s premier children’s hospital
helps kids recover faster from life-threatening diseases and chronic
illnesses. The campaign raised $1.3 million to help the hospital ensure
that children receive the critical lifesaving care they need. This year,
the campaign has expanded to include a special component designed to
raise funds that support the care of children in the Coachella Valley.

“We are thrilled the desert communities have joined us in helping to
raise funds to help children heal thanks to the invaluable expert care
that CHLA and BSCC provide,” says Dawn Wilcox, vice president of
Corporate Partnerships at CHLA. “We’re off to a great start thanks to
community donors who have already committed in excess of $100,000 to
ensure the campaign’s success.”

This campaign is uniquely targeted to the residents, businesses and
community in the Coachella Valley. All of the money raised in the desert
will be used to bring services delivered at Children’s Hospital Los
Angeles through the Audrey Hepburn CARES Center to the BSCC.

Both organizations focus on the needs of children suffering the effects
of abuse and neglect and those who are at risk of being abused. Under
the direction of Dr. Karen Kay Imagawa, the CARES Center and BSCC
collectively treat more than 1,200 children each year. Additional
funding will help patients receive child-appropriate care more quickly,
reduce delays in child abuse investigations, protect more children who
have suffered abuse and support a more streamlined return home for
children who have not been abused.

To inspire donors, the H.N. and Frances C. Berger Foundation has pledged
a $75,000 matching grant in addition to a few individual donors who have
stepped up to kick off the campaign.

“This campaign comes at a critical time for us. We are seeing more cases
each month and more overall children each year at the Barbara Sinatra
Children’s Center,” says John Thoresen, CEO of BSCC. “We are so grateful
to the doctors and the staff at CHLA, especially Dr. Imagawa. Thanks to
her leadership, we can triage these vulnerable children compassionately,
efficiently and with the best medical expertise available directly into
therapeutic treatment.”
