Leading Data Science Training Provider Metis Debuts in Chicago with a Grand Opening and A New Scholarship for LGBTQ Students

CHICAGO–(BUSINESS WIRE)–#chicago–To commemorate its arrival on the Chicago tech scene, leading data
science training provider Metis
will hold a grand opening ceremony centered around the theme of “Demystifying
Data Science” on October 20th, 6:30-8:30 PM at 1033 West Van Buren
Street. Featuring established data scientists who represent the growing
community of data science talent in Chicago, the event’s agenda will
include:

• Opening remarks by Tom Schenk Jr., Chief Data Officer of the City of
  Chicago
• Short “lightning talks” by data scientists about their career paths:
  • Greg Reda: Data Science Lead at Sprout Social
  • Jess Freaner: Data Scientist at Datascope Analytics
  • Jeremy Watt: Machine Learning consultant and Author of Machine
    Learning Refined

  At the grand opening, Metis will reaffirm its commitment to diversity in
  tech by introducing a new $3,000 bootcamp scholarship for lesbian, gay,
  bisexual, transgender and queer applicants. Currently, Metis provides
  bootcamp scholarships for women, underrepresented demographic groups,
  and veterans or members of the U.S. military.

  Chicago, an organization dedicated to creating spaces for women to
  work collaboratively and continue their learning through Python-focused

  Metis’s recent opening in Chicago represents the latest in a series of
  expansions for the data science training provider, including its
  expansion to San Francisco, the acquisition of Booz Allen Hamilton’s Explore
  Data Science program, and the hiring of noted data scientist Dr.
  Deborah Berebichez. The Windy City ranks as one of the best jobs markets
  in the United States for data scientists; according to Crain’s, Chicago
  is classed “behind only Silicon Valley and perhaps Seattle and New York.”

  job in America on jobs website Glassdoor’s 2016 list, McKinsey and
  Company reports that 140,000-190,000
  job postings for data scientists will go unfilled by 2018.

  Metis is now taking accepting applications for its Chicago bootcamp,
  which begins January 17. The early application deadline is November 21.
  Students may also enroll in Metis’s part-time Introduction to Data
  Science course, which begins January 23.
