Juan Gabriel is hospitalized after giving concert in Vegas

Juan Gabriel fans in the U.S. might have to wait a bit longer to see him in concert after ‘El Divo de Juarez’ fell ill and had to be hospitalized in Las Vegas.

Univision.com reports that Juanga was hospitalized suffering from pneumonia on April 14^th, at the Southern Hills Hospital, according to sources who know the 64-year-old Mexican singer. Those same sources told Univision that a friend of Juan Gabriel obligated him to go to the hospital because the singer is typically averse to seeing doctors.

A spokesperson for the singer reported that Juan Gabriel felt sick before his performance at the Mandalay Bay Hotel but didn’t want to let his fans down, so he went on with the performance anyway. Right after he went to the hospital at his friend’s urging. In fact, the singer had been feeling sick since experiencing the cold temperature in New York as part of his concert tour.

Juanga’s shows, scheduled for the 16^th, 17^th and 19^th of April, two at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles and the third at the SAP Center in San Jose, respectively, have been canceled. He is expected to spend eight days at this hospital for his course of treatment.

“He sang as best he could in Las Vegas; he was already feeling very sick, but he wanted to fulfill his concert obligation, because he doesn’t like to leave people hanging, and much less his fans”, a spokesperson told Mexico’s daily “La Reforma”. “After the show it was necessary to take him to a hospital, and once there he was admitted immediately because they found a pneumonia infection.”

It’s too early to know if later tour dates, such as his June 6th performance at Miami’s American Airlines Arena will be affected by his sickness.

Juanga’s repertoire ranges from dramatic songs of tragic love lost to happier anthems that have captured the hearts of several generations of Latin Americans around the world.

Aside from his musical mastery, his flamboyant stage presence and sexuality have also garnered attention as he was quoted saying “lo que se ve, no se pregunta” (don’t ask what is already obvious), while questioned by the press in the past about his sexual orientation.

Despite having an extremely private life off stage, Juanga recently made headlines when he released a video of him in compromising positions recorded by a mystery person. He later came out to the press saying he released the video because he was being victimized in a case of blackmail, and wanted to beat the person who threatened to release that video to the punch.
