Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro made a belated birthday visit to Fidel Castro, the former Cuban leader revealed in one of his regular columns entitled “True Friendship.”

“Yesterday, I had the visit of the president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, who made a trip abroad related to the defense of important interests of his country in the oil sector,” Fidel explains.

Castro’s “Reflections” column was posted Wednesday night on the official website CubaDebate. He said Maduro stopped by Tuesday, fulfilling a promise he made on Aug. 13 as Castro turned 88.

Castro said on his blog, the Israeli military was offensive against Gaza, he called it a “genocide” and a “holocaust” for Palestinians. He also praised Maduro’s gesture with the people of the Gaza Strip.

“ I congratulated Maduro for his extraordinary solidarity with the heroic people of the Gaza Strip,” Fidel wrote on his article.”The courageous Venezuelan pilots have taken their humanitarian cargo that saves the lives of mothers, children and adults.”
