Missouri American Water Initiating Upgrade of Water Meter Reading System in St. Louis County

ST. LOUIS–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Missouri American Water is launching an upgrade of its water meter
system in St. Louis County as part of the company’s continuous
improvement efforts.

Starting in the next few weeks, Missouri American Water, working with
contractors Aclara Technologies and Scope Services, will begin a
five-year transition from manual water meter reading processes to an
Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) system.

This wireless system improves Missouri American Water’s ability to
accurately measure water consumption by reducing estimated bills. It
also will allow a better understanding of system-wide water consumption,
which will enhance Missouri American Water’s ability to engineer and
update its water system. It also improves efficiency by eliminating the
need to manually read meters of the more than 340,000 homes and
businesses in St. Louis County.

Scope Services will soon begin contacting customers with indoor meters
to set up installation appointments. Customers with outdoor meters will
receive a letter prior to their upgrade and need not set an appointment.
Water service will not be interrupted during installation.
