National Recognition Given to La Raza Newspaper

La Raza Newspaper, Chicago’s leading Hispanic publication, has been selected by Editor & Publisher as one of the Ten Newspapers That Do It Right 2015.

This prestigious award is presented to 10 U.S. newspapers that serve as a model for others in one (or several) important areas such as: editorial, community awareness, effective marketing ideas, attractive design, online innovations, diversity in coverage and in hiring.

“Editor & Publisher has been presenting this award for 15 years and we are very honored to be the only Hispanic publication in the country and the only newspaper in Chicago to receive this recognition in 2015,” said Jimena Catarivas Corbett, General Manager of La Raza Newspaper.

As E&P points out in their article announcing the winners, “by offering a wide range of products, [La Raza’s] local sales have increased 19 percent YOY, and special editions have shown double digit growth”. This multi-faceted approach, along with strong editorial content is what maintains La Raza’s success. As Jesus Del Toro, editor of the newspaper, states, “we are hyper-local in many ways, but at the same time we provide general useful and practical information that our readers can use and enjoy in their daily lives”.

The article also highlights how the recipients of the recognition are “newspapers still pushing hard for print; newspapers unafraid to experiment; and most importantly, newspapers planning for and finding success in various ways”.
