During their Path to Purchase Expo presentation, “Finding
Growth on the Rapidly Evolving Path to Purchase
,” IRI’s Robert
Tomei and Larry Levin will discuss the impact the changing
consumer and shopper landscape is having on the shopper journey,
and how marketers can find those all-important pockets of growth,
including e-commerce.

CPG e-commerce sales have been growing approximately 15 percent
annually since 2010 (far outpacing brick-and-mortar stores), and
U.S.-based retailers will invest more than $15 billion to drive
online sales in the next three years (source: eMarketer).


Digital is now the primary way people plan to shop, with many going
from planning to purchasing with a few simple clicks, while still
others are relying on digital, social and mobile to learn about
products and seek out savings even though they ultimately fulfill
their wants and needs in traditional brick-and-mortar retailers.
In addition, consumers and shoppers leverage mobile devices for more
than half of individual retailer website visits. However, shoppers’
paths to purchase online will likely become more rigid, with only
certain sites considered for certain purchases. In this session,
attendees will:

• Learn how to identify, validate and quantify the steps in the
new path to purchase for key consumer groups and shopper segments.

• Explore the impact on sales of digital, social and mobile

• Gain a better understanding of what is impacting consumers’ and
shoppers’ inclinations to shop online today and in the future.
