The Zombie Apocalypse and Winning the Lottery Top the List of Preferred Dinner Table Conversations
New Data from The Penn Mutual Life Insurance Company Shows Families
Feel More Comfortable Discussing Fiction than Reality at the Dinner Table
HORSHAM, Pa.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–#zombieapocalypse–The Penn Mutual Life Insurance Company’s (Penn Mutual) latest awareness
campaign motivates families to get serious about their dinner table
conversations. As part of September’s Life
Insurance Awareness Month, the 169-year-old organization surveyed
approximately 800 consumers nationwide to find out what they consider
appropriate to discuss at the dinner table.
Shockingly, most people would prefer to discuss hypothetical topics such
as the zombie apocalypse or winning the lottery over realistic and
important topics like life insurance and life planning. The survey found
that “taboo” dinner table conversations included salary, how much life
insurance you have and how children would survive if parents suddenly
passed away.
In addition, Penn Mutual took to the streets to ask consumers
face-to-face what they think of the survey results, what they would
comfortably talk about at the dinner table and what they feel is “taboo”
conversation, “Ditch
or Discuss.”
“Last year, we asked consumers what they would rather do than talk about
life insurance. We received some hilarious responses, “Would
You Rather,” but it helped people realize that talking about life
insurance is not as difficult or as painful as some perceive it to be.
This year, we wanted to go a step further and focus on family
discussions and motivate people to have these important conversations
before it’s too late,” says Penn Mutual chief marketing and digital
officer, Jeff Fleischman. “Everyone knows that avoidance is never the
appropriate solution, so we want families to get serious and address
these issues,” Fleischman explains.
