Twitter introduced a new feature yesterday that might just keep most of us on the ‘twitterverse’ from going crazy using the social media site.

Twitter announced in a blog post the ‘Mute’ feature.

According to the blog post, “Mute gives you even more control over the content you see on Twitter by letting you remove a user’s content from key parts of your Twitter experience.”

Just like you can turn on and off notification so that you can stalk — erg I mean never miss a tweet from — your favorite users, this feature will allow you to do the opposite. You can now mute users that you’d like to hear less from.

What does Mute specifically do?

Muting a user on Twitter means their Tweets and Retweets will no longer show up on your home timeline, and you will no longer receive notifications from that user. The muted user will still be able to fave, reply to, and retweet your Tweets ? you just won’t see any of that activity in your timeline.

The muted user will not know that you’ve muted them, and of course you can unmute at any time ? so you can secretly snub those people who just don’t know how to use Twitter without hurting their feelings.

So who might you want to use this new feature on? Some of the most annoying people on Twitter.

The Twitter Diary

One of the first people you can mute are those that love to share all their deepest and most personal thoughts on Twitter — as if it were their diary.

These are the people that have to share every picture showing what mood they’re in. They are the ones who will tell you how much they love their significant other and expect a reminder about their one month, two month and 33 and half week anniversary every other day.

When they’re happy, you’ll know it!

When they’re mad, you’ll know it!

The Series Spoiler

It’s Sunday once again and you’ve just missed the new episode of “Game Of Thrones.” Now you have to close Twitter and any form of social media in the off chance you might glance one of your followers who doesn’t understand that not everyone has seen the new episode.

If you follow one of those people that love to narrate everything they see on television — and spoil all of your favorite shows.

MUTE!

The Constant Updater

Just Woke up! Just had breakfast. Going to the Mall. Traffic is horrible. Decided to stop by Starbucks.

Yes, you’ve seen them. The tweeters that have to tweet every moment of every day of their lives because god forbid you don’t know that they just had a light salad for lunch as part of their new diet to lose weight for bikini season.

For everyone that puts their entire lives on broadcast for the world to follow …..

MUTE!

For all these kinds of tweeters along with those internet trolls that we could all benefit from hearing just a little less from, this new feature may just be what saves your sanity.

Twitter says that the new feature will be available for everyone in the coming weeks.
