Jennifer Lopez has created quite a buzz lately with a free concert she plans on giving in her hometown, The Bronx, but residents of this New York burrough aren’t showing any love for the Newyorican singer–they’re downright distressed over the upcoming performance.

JLo is supposed to treat residents to a free concernt on Pelhalm Bay Park, but many residents of the surrounding City Island don’t want the concert, scheduled for June 4th, to take place.

The area’s civic association told New York police commissioner Bill Bratton that the show would overwhelm the neighborhood with vehicular traffic and crowds.

The “New York Daily News” published part of the letter written by the City Island Civic Association, which was not only addressed to the police commissioner, but also to Parks Commissioner Bill Bratton:

“The concert was announced last week and sold out in quick fashion. To our knowledge, none of our elected officials or even our local community board had been consulted … they would have surely informed you that our small community sits immediately off of this venue and relies on the roadways within Pelham Bay Park to enter and exit our neighborhood.”

Jennifer Lopez’s camp has not issued any comments regarding the matter.

Page Six of the “New York Post” published an article that suspects the concert catered to 25,000 of her fans is really a commercial ploy. It cites the upcoming opening of the Throggs Neck Shopping Center, not far from the site of the concert.

In that mall will be a phone store called Viva Movil by Jennifer Lopez.

We want to know what YOU think. Is JLo just showing love to her hometown or just looking for more publicity?
