9 Viral things that owned the Internet in 2014

With Christmas come and gone, the next thing to look forward to is the New Year’s celebration. It’s the time for hopeful new beginnings and fresh starts. SEE ALSO: JenCarlos Canela will welcome 2015 by making history It’s also a time to look back on the good, the bad, and the ugly of 2014 so we’ve come up with a few things to reflect on that went viral this year. 1) When Cristian Castro showed us a bit too much The Mexican singer tweeted a photo of himself in nothing but a banana hammock following his massage. He captioned it “Masajito con saiote!!!,” who we can only assume was his masseuse. It obviously caught the attention of many, rendering 9,000 retweets and gaining more than 4,000 favorites. 2) Lionel Messi’s scandalous red suit Argentinean soccer star Messi definitely stood out at the FIFA Ballon d’Or Gala when he showed up in a full red suit. Many were quick to compare him to Ron Burgundy, giving Messi’s fashion sense a bad name. 3) ALS Ice Bucket Challenge The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge was the talk of social media where people would dump a bucket of ice water on their heads, challenge someone else, and hopefully promote awareness of the disease. Celebrities such as Jennifer Lopez, David Bisbal, LeBron James, Shakira and even President Barack Obama got involved in the social media trend. 4) The Dancing Diva Kid The 15 year old boy, Brendan Jordan, video bombed a Las Vegas reporter with an intense dance routine in the background of her shoot. His suave moves and poses went viral, gaining the attention of thousands, even American Apparel who gave him his own ad. 5) Miami Marlins’ Game Cam Star Brendan Jordan wasn’t the only dancing diva around this year. One little kid became famous for his crazy moves on the Miami Marlins fan cam. When he notices the camera lands on him, he starts to gyrate his hips and lift his shirt for what led to a hilarious reaction from the Internet. The hashtag #alexfromtarget was trending worldwide and even attracted the attention of talk show host Ellen DeGeneres who invited the 16-year-old on her show to chat about his 15 minutes of fame. For the record, Alex Lee went from having under 100 friends on Twitter to over 740K. 7) Kim Kardashian breaks the Internet In her attempt to “break the internet,” Kim Kardashian’s nudes on Paper magazine is pretty recent. Must we say more? 8) Jay-Z and Solange … cat fight? The cat fight of the year goes to none other than Solange Knowles and Jay-Z. In May, TMZ released footage of what sparked a huge reaction on social media; Beyonce’s sister, Solange, appearing to throw punches and kicks at Jay-Z, her brother-in-law. Hundreds of meme’s came pouring out after the footage was released of the two’s battle in the elevator. 9) Donald Sterling. Be careful with what you say in public…and private apparently. Previous owner of the Los Angeles Clippers, Donald Sterling knows just the wrong thing to say. After a private recording of him making racists comments was exposed to the public, Sterling publicly apologized and explained that he wasn’t a racist. Too late though, the damage had been done and Sterling reached an agreement to sell the Clippers for $2 billion to Steve Ballmer. It’s also a time to look back on the good, the bad, and the ugly of 2014 so we’ve come up with a few things to reflect on that went viral this year.

1) When Cristian Castro showed us a bit too much

Lionel Messi, the forward for Spanish club FC Barcelona is known all over the world for his talent on the field but now his fashion sense is giving much to talk about.
