Las mejores boquillas para manguera se distinguen principalmente por una medida sencilla: el caudal, es decir, la cantidad de agua que suministran.

Puedes usar una manguera sin boquilla, pero no será una experiencia muy eficiente. La mayoría de las mangueras que recomendamos no incluyen una boquilla, así que tendrás que comprar una por separado, a menos que quieras que el agua salga lentamente y con muy poca fuerza. Melnor Thumb Control 8-Pattern Nozzle

This hose nozzle excelled over all others at the most important metric: flow rate. The Melnor Thumb Control 8-Pattern had the strongest, most high-volume flow of any of the multipattern models we tested, which means your time spent watering your plants while getting eaten alive by mosquitoes will be cut significantly. But it also had powerful performance on its shower and wash (aka jet) settings. Its one flaw was lower flow in mist mode, but that’s less of a concern.

The Melnor Thumb Control 8-Pattern has—you guessed it—eight watering patterns. The company claims that it’s “certified for ease of use by the Arthritis Foundation, and proven to make life easier for people who have arthritis and chronic pain.” But we didn’t test this product for ergonomics, whether for folks with chronic pain or other issues. 

Gilmour Heavy Duty Garden Hose Nozzle

The Gilmour garden hose nozzle delivered its most powerful, high-flow performance in its washing (also called jet) pattern, although its overall flow rate couldn’t quite match the beefy volume of the Melnor Thumb Control 8-Pattern. Its mist pattern, while mediocre, was better than the Melnor’s, however. 

This hose nozzle has eight watering patterns.

Besiter Garden Hose Nozzle

This hose nozzle differs from the others we recommend in that it has 10 watering patterns rather than eight. It also comes in a number of colors, including orange, black, blue, yellow, and green. 

It offers the best misting flow rate of any nozzle, another trait that sets it apart from the Melnor and Gilmour, both of which had middling mist setting performance. So if you have several delicate plants that require gentle watering, the Besiter might be for you. It has the additional benefit of being the most budget-friendly of the multipattern hose nozzle models we recommend. 

It comes with additional rubber washers and is available in single packs or two-packs.

Niagara Multipattern Watering Wand

For delicate hanging plants that require a gentle touch when watering, the Niagara is your answer. In our tests, it had a higher mist flow rate than the other two watering wands we recommend. And it had exceptional performance for overall flow rate, jet (wash) setting, and shower setting, making it an all-around workhorse.

The Niagara watering wand has eight patterns and is 15.15 inches long, the shortest (by less than an inch) of our recommended watering wands. 

Dramm 9-Pattern Aluminum Watering Wand

This wand nozzle has nine patterns, one more than our other recommended wands. It excelled in its jet setting. But it had a weaker flow rate than the Melnor’s or Niagara’s for the shower setting, and mediocre mist performance.

At almost 19 inches long, it’s longer than our other recommended wand models. It comes in a variety of colors—berry, blue, green, yellow, orange, and red—though it’s odd that you aren’t able to choose which one you receive (at least from its what appears to be its primary retailer, Ace Hardware). For greater reach, it’s also available in longer lengths.

Cómo hicimos las pruebas

Para esta categoría de productos, centramos nuestras pruebas en la medida más importante para cualquier boquilla de manguera: el caudal. El caudal puede describirse, en términos generales, como el volumen de agua —en galones— que cada boquilla suministra por minuto. Hicimos las pruebas en nuestra sede de Yonkers. Conectamos cada boquilla a una manguera, dejamos correr el agua en un balde durante 30 segundos y luego pesamos el balde. Repetimos el proceso con cada patrón de rociado —o ajuste— que ofrecía la boquilla.

Los caudales más altos obtienen una mejor puntuación porque reducen el tiempo que tienes que dedicar a la tarea de riego, sea cual sea. Por ejemplo, descubrimos que el caudal máximo más alto que ofrecieron los modelos, con nuestra configuración específica, fue de 5.5 galones por minuto. El caudal máximo más bajo —es decir, el mejor caudal que podía alcanzar el modelo más lento— fue de 3 galones por minuto. Esto significa que regar tu jardín con la boquilla mejor calificada podría tomar aproximadamente la mitad del tiempo que con el modelo que obtuvo la calificación más baja.
