Construction work has advanced far enough to allow the interior build-up process and finishing details to be complete by August 27, noted Selwyn Crittendon, store manager of the future IKEA Miami. Now our primary goal is the final training of the more-than-350 local hires joining the IKEA coworker family.
The 416,000 square-foot future IKEA Miami, with its nearly 1,500 parking spaces, is located on 14.6 acres adjacent to the Dolphin Mall, at the intersection of the Dolphin Expressway (SR 836) and Floridas Turnpike, in the City of Sweetwater. The store will reflect the same unique architectural design for which IKEA stores are known worldwide, as well as significant sustainable building practices, including the installation of South Floridas largest rooftop solar array, consistent with the companys 90% solar presence atop its U.S. locations.
IKEA Miami will feature nearly 10,000 exclusively designed items, 44 inspirational room-settings, three model home interiors, a supervised childrens play area, and a 600-seat restaurant serving Swedish specialties such as meatballs with lingonberries and salmon plates, as well as American dishes. Other family-friendly features include a Childrens IKEA area in the Showroom, baby care rooms, play areas throughout the store, and preferred parking.
In addition to more than 500 jobs created from construction, approximately 350 coworkers will have joined the IKEA family by when the new store opens. Diverse positions at this employer of choice include: home furnishings sales, interior design, customer service, safety and security, cashiers, maintenance, goods flow, receiving, warehouse and stock replenishment. Also, among its total coworkers, IKEA Miami offers more than 60 food service opportunities in its Restaurant, Swedish Foodmarket, Café Bistro and coworker cafeteria.
Since its 1943 founding in Sweden, IKEA has offered home furnishings of good design and function, at low prices so the majority of people can afford them. There are currently more than 350 IKEA stores in 44 countries, including 38 in the U.S. IKEA has been ranked in FORTUNEs annual 100 Best Companies to Work For list, Working Mother magazines annual list of 100 Best Companies for Working Mothers and Training magazines annual Top 100. IKEA incorporates sustainability into day-to-day business and supports initiatives that benefit children and the environment.
