Did Selena Gomez have breast augmentation?

The latest photos of Selena Gomez have people across the country raising their eyebrows, wondering if the Latina beauty had some recent surgery. Recent images of Gomez on social media show her sporting a fuller bosom, fueling rumors that she had a recent breast augmentation.

According to Selena’s representative, the actress did not have any surgery on her breasts, but experts in the field aren’t so certain.

“It appears that Selena has had a breast augmentation. The breasts appear fuller and you can see the outline of the upper portion of the implant,” said Dr. Jonathan Shifren of WAVE Plastic Surgery Center in LA told HollywoodLife.com. “They tend to sit high on the chest wall in the immediate post-operative period. My imprint from the picture is that she had the operation fairly recently.”

How could Gomez had had surgery so quickly without any down time?

According to Shifren, in his practice, patients usually return to work in 3-5 days and are back in the gym and partaking in their usual athletic activities 1 month after surgery.

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons indicates most of the activity restriction on patients is within the first 24-48 hours and the rest of the recovery process depends on the patient and the type of implants received.

“Without having operated on her it is hard to tell the exact size of the implants, but it seems based upon the before and after photos provided it is probably around a 300 to 325 cc implant (a “full C” on her frame),” Dr. Jennifer Walden, a plastic surgeon based in Austin, Texas, said.

If Gomez had breast augmentation, she could have had a number of different implants done, including textured, smooth, round, gummy bear (named for their ability to maintain shape), silicone, or saline.

“Analyzing the pictures before and after it is obvious that she underwent breast augmentation recently,” another expert, NYC Cosmetic Plastic Surgeon Dr. Yoel S. Shahar, M.D, indicated. “The implants were probably placed under the muscle which make the recovery a little longer, about 2 weeks. It appears that the implants were placed too high pushing the nipples to a lower position.”

Though the panel of experts tends to feel Selena Gomez did, in fact, have breast augmentation, there remains no proof beyond speculation. At one point Gomez herself indicated she had considered breast augmentation to make herself comparable to some of the women Justin Bieber has been seen with in the past.

If she did have implants done, Gomez can expect to lead a normal life, though potential complications of the procedure include: implant leakage or rupture, formation of scar tissue, implant movement, fluid accumulation, skin wrinkling, and changes in breast sensation, among others.
