AMAs: Yey & Ney moments

I don’t really care for awards, at all. Sales and number make or break the bank but are not (necessarily) synonyms of talent. However I did watch the AMAs and these is what I saw as the worst and the best of the evening.

The best

  • Pitbull

Wow, it seems like we finally found a use for this guy. As much as I still think his “music” lacks any sort of creative juice and it’s extremely offensive towards women I have to give it to the guy: he rocked as the award show’s host.

Quotes like the ones below really deserve thumbs up:

– “Not all Latinos are Mexican.”

– “ABC found out that when I spoke three words of Spanish, ratings went up 142%.So get ready for three hours of subtitles!”

  • Taylor Swift

Ah innocent Swift is long gone. For the performance of “Blank Space” the beautiful blonde dangled form the ceiling, fed her bf a poison apple, set everything on fire and gave the camera some mean- creepy looks. It was all for the show, and it worked like a charm.

  • Lorde

New Zealander Lorde is her own kind of royalty in the world op pop. “Yellow Flicker Beat” sounded like nothing else on the radio. She ended her performance by smearing her lipstick: a quick reminder of the very special space she occupies in the often photocopied world of modern pop.

  • Mary J. Blige

She’s still got it- BIG time. Her performance of “Theraphy” was pretty simple, unadorned and natural, which gave her incredible voice and stage presence the attention they both deserve.

  • Jennifer López and Iggy Azalea

I still find no use for the lyric-less “Booty” but the first live performance of the pair left everyone on “ohhh.” Great visuals, catchy choreography and a quick reminder from JLo that she isn’t about that booty call (anymore.)

Worst

  • Magic! and Wyclef Jean

I am a Wyclef Jean fan (Talent doesn’t lie) but was definitely second guessing myself after last night’s performance. The performance sounded more like a rehearsal, which was a total shame- everyone was looking forward to some good sweet reggae.

  • Selena Gomez

The girl is pretty her “Heart Wants What It Wants” and teary eyes dominated her performance. But, who, just who chose her visuals? A silhouette pressed against a window made it looked like Justin Bieber’s ex was performing in front of the poster for “The Human Centipede” movie poster at some point. Bad, bad Vj.

  • One Direction

You guys are not longer a baby-faced boy band and you better start figuring out a way of re-inventing yourselves because it’s getting pretty boooorinnnggg. “Night Changes” and the whole swamp made me want to take a nap. Why did they win artist of the year?

  • Pitbull

Yes I was pretty delighted to have Mr.Worldwide entertaining the show as a host, but too much of a “good thing” is never good. There was no need to have him perform or see his smiley face during the performance of his co-write “Booty.” Was I the only one who felt the whole thing was Pitbull branded?

  • Katy Perry’s “live” acceptance speech

She could had tried to memorize the speech and make it more her own. There was nothing live about that acceptance speech.

  • Kardashian /Jenner sister

Just why?
